Back to Basics
Last week I was feeling emphatically that I have let everything in my life go to shit. Not in the sense that I can’t make ends meet or I have made some unforgivable mistake, but rather that I have been gradually sacrificing my morals to the point where I am nearly unrecognizable to my former self. It felt like the only course of action would be to “burn it all down” and start over.
While it may be tempting to cut all ties and start from scratch, it would be drastic. Plus, I would still need to change my behavior or I would just wind up in the exact same place. So I have come to the conclusion that the better approach is to make small, “one percent” changes every day. I will course correct gradually. I will be guided by the habits that have brought me joy and success in the past. I don’t need to overcompensate. I need to get back to basics:
- Run
- Be curious. Be a lifelong learner
- Practice gratitude and optimism
- Help others
- Trust my gut
- Love unapologetically
- Don’t take life so seriously
